According to a recent survey, 24% of older adults choose Medicare Advantage Plans because they offer additional benefits, 20% because Advantage plans limit how much you pay out of pocket every year and 15% because their plan was recommended by a trusted advisor. Open enrollment has started, so you have from now to December 7 to make changes that take effect January 1, 2023.

Many Medicare Advantage enrollees choose their plans because they offer more benefits than traditional Medicare and have limits on out-of-pocket costs. Traditional Medicare plans, however, provide more options for doctors, hospitals and providers.

Social Security recipients can expect an increase in their monthly benefit payment of from 9% to 11.4% in 2023 because of the high rate of inflation we've experienced so far this year. That will increase the average benefit by $190/month or $2,280/year, and comes on the heels of a 5.9% increase in 2022.

Of course, that increase will be eaten up quickly by the rising cost of food gas, medical care and the anticipated increase in the Medicare Part B premium (not announced yet).

The increase could add $2,280 a year to retiree benefits.

Due to raging inflation, the Senior Citizens League estimates that Social Security payments could go up by 10.5% next year! Of course, that will be offset somewhat by expected increases in Medicare Part B premiums and prescription drug costs. income planning

One consequence of these inflationary pressures is a potential increase in the cost of living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security beneficiaries in 2023.
