There is no such thing as a "digital" "reporter."

Any company who is trying to coax you to "become a digital reporter" should really be guiding you to train to be a certified court stenographer with training and a license through the state.
Real court reporters train for their careers through court reporting schools. If you are interested - which I hope you are because it's an awesome career - please call and enroll in a real court reporting program - a simple Google search can help you find a training center near you and online options.

Why do I say there is no such thing as a digital reporter? Because people equipped with a computer to record are RECORDERS. And that is okay if that is what you want to do - but please do not be fooled by a company who says you are their "court reporter" now -
When you go to the first meeting with them they may tell you that you are not allowed to say who you work for. Or that it may happen that the attorneys may demand that you leave the proceedings because the company told them a trained and licensed court reporter would be showing up and instead they hired you from Craigslist for a third of the price - and listen close... they charge the attorneys the same as a real trained court reporter and keep the difference. If you want to be a digital recorder person, I can't stop you - but ask for all the money that the company representing you are a "court reporter" will bring in - don't let them use you. Don't let them make you wait at the nearby metro station in case there is a false emergency that they created because "real" court reporters who have licenses refuse to work for them - DEMAND FIVE DOLLARS PER PAGE!!! The agency bills the attorneys SEVEN OR EIGHT OR MORE dollars a page and the parties present who want a copy also - and per hour, customarily there can be on the low side 45 pages to 75 pages per hour if you are stenographically trained. And they are only offering you $30 dollars an hour. Ask them, "Where's the rest?"
This corporation built its empire on trained and certified real court stenographers. And because they found a way to make the product cheap, they want you.
Please don't do it. Go to school like us. Or DEMAND our money if you're going to take it anyways. Don't let them keep it. It's wrong. They are the only ones who win.

Ask questions. And then ask more questions.
