The mission: help local kindergartners start the year with the basics, and give teachers some extra support along the way.

The results:

During a recent visit to the Philippines, Thornburg's Kate Porto spent time volunteering in her parents’ countryside community. Alongside her husband, she helped prepare and share meals with local families and handed out snacks to students near a public school.

Last week, Thornburg's Josh Rubin and Jonathan Schuman, along with Javier Orcoyen of Thornburg’s partner firm Río Capital, had the privilege of spending time with Thornburg’s clients in Zonamerica, Uruguay’s free trade zone just outside Montevideo.

The team always values meeting clients face to face. These conversations strengthen relationships, surface what matters most, and ensure alignment with long-term goals.

Free trade zones such as Zonamerica employ more than 17,000 people and account for over 6% of Uruguay’s GDP. They are also helping to shape Uruguay’s development as a regional wealth management hub, with a growing presence of financial services firms focused on cross-border clients. That combination makes Zonamerica a particularly interesting setting for client conversations.

At Thornburg Investment Management, our investment team is intentionally based in Santa Fe, away from the noise of major financial centers.

This location reflects a belief that independent thinking benefits from distance. Distance from crowded trades, short-term market narratives and the constant noise of financial hubs.

Jamie plays a key role on the Thornburg team, partnering closely with advisors and bringing a steady, consultative approach to investment conversations.
