Do you get your health insurance through Covered California?
There are some MAJOR changes coming to look out for!
⨀ Some premium subsidies are ending
– Extra financial help (subsidies) are coming to an end at the end of 2025
– Premiums are due to rise sharply in 2026
⨀ New enrollment rules - effective August 25, 2025
– No more auto renewals on $0 premium plans
– Eligibility must be confirmed every year or a $5 monthly charge will apply
⨀ Stricter Verification
– Proof or income, residency, and immigration status will be required before subsidies are granted
– The low-income Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is ending
– Only Qualifying Events will allow mid-year changes
⨀ Tax Filing is Required
– Taxes must be filed every year and premium tax credits must be reconciled
– Future subsidies will be lost if this is not done every single year
⨀ Premiums are due to drastically increase
– 2026 rates are due to significantly increase as subsidies expire
What can you do?
– Starting October 15, 2025 call your agent or log in to your Covered California account and update your information
– Stay tax compliant! File and reconcile every year
– Plan ahead for higher costs this upcoming year
– Shop around this coming Open Enrollment starting 10/15
