🎆 Stay Safe This 4th of July: Fire Dangers, DUI Risks, and Your 411!
Southern California has already seen a troubling fire season this year, with the Altadena and Palisades fires serving as clear reminders of how quickly flames can spread under hot, dry conditions.
As we head into this 2025 Fourth of July weekend, fire officials are urging all residents to take extra precautions.
Here in Santa Clarita, it’s important to remember that all fireworks are illegal, even sparklers. One careless moment could put entire neighborhoods at risk. Whether you’re in the canyons, foothills, or suburbs, a single ember can spark a devastating blaze.
With this year’s Fourth falling on a Friday, we’re expecting a long, event-filled weekend which also brings an unfortunate spike in DUI arrests.
So while it’s great to celebrate with friends and family, please don’t decide drink and drive after your day of festivities. Law enforcement will be out in full force with sobriety checkpoints and DUI patrols throughout the weekend.
☝️ A Few Friendly Reminders:
• Fireworks are illegal in Santa Clarita. No exceptions.
• Use extra caution when barbecuing or gathering outdoors.
• Designate a sober driver, call a rideshare, or stay the night.
• Celebrate at approved events, like local fireworks shows and festivals.
👉 In the City of Los Angeles, illegal fireworks possession, use, sale, or discharge is a violation of LA Municipal Code (LAMC) Section 57.5608.1.2. Classified as a misdemeanor.
👉 Violations can result in up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. Additionally, possessing "dangerous fireworks" (as defined in CA Health and Safety Code Section 12505) can also be a violation of CA Health and Safety Code Section 12677.
