“Passive” ownership sounds great, doesn’t it? Just invest in a franchise, kick your feet up, and collect a check. Mailbox money, right? 💰

Seems simple enough. Only issue is that it rarely works out that way. But that’s a conversation for a different day.

Bottomline: Passive / Semi-Absentee / Absentee are terms that often get lumped together, but they most certainly do not mean the same thing. And just because a franchisor says their opportunity is passive or absentee doesn’t make it so.

Ensure that you and the franchisor are on the same page when it comes to how you’re both defining “passive.”

Can you imagine how unfortunate that would be to invest in a franchise thinking you were going to be able to keep your job and simply collect a check, only to find out that the business will require your full-time presence for a few years before you can step away into a more passive role?

Make sure to ask these questions, and make sure to use a qualified Franchise Consultant who knows & has relationships with the different franchisors and who can guide you through the due diligence process.
