This frame will eventually become a lantern with paper sides. Like a Japanese lantern where the paper is translucent and provides nice diffuse lighting. The tesseract geometry ensures the light shines equally in all directions.

In my experience, the Artist's Statement can be a somewhat prescriptive document. It can impose limitations on the experience and interpretation of the art, and restrain the evolution of the artist and the viewer. This object is a tool for viewers of the art to engage with the art and incorporate elements of the artist's experience with their own perspective. The viewer can then generate a statement that is collaborative, yet entirely distinct and unique.

I finally completed this collection of printed stereographic 3d scenes of San Francisco. My goal was not to capture the usual tourist landmarks but to focus more on the ephemeral features of the city's landscape. Ordinary street corners and scenes that will likely look very different in the future. One of my inspirations was a talk by Rick Prelinger at a Long Now event on the changing landscape of the city and how difficult it was to find historical images that weren’t just photos of flowers, tourist spots or smiling relatives of the photographer. Maybe another one in the future as a lot of these scenes have already changed drastically!

What was to be a simple stand evolved into something more.
