U.S. home sales hit their lowest level in 14 years in 2025, marking the third straight year of sluggish activity. Combined new and existing home sales totaled 4.74 million, barely changed from 2024 and the weakest since 2011. The culprit remains elevated mortgage rates, which have suppressed the market since 2022. "The last three years have had total sales levels on par with the years following the global financial crisis," said Realtor.com senior economist Joel Berner.
