Your credit score does not have to be perfect to buy a home. I'll say it LOUDER for those in the back. Although poor credit does bring challenges, perfect credit is not a requirement to buy a home. Work on strengthening your credit to get it healthy enough to qualify for better terms. Hey, ! Student loans don't affect your ability to get a mortgage any differently than other types of debt including auto loans and credit card debt. Though it may seem overwhelming to add on more debt by committing to a mortgage, you have to remember your home will build equity which can eventually be used to pay off high interest debts, like student loans! Did you know rates have actually been abnormally low since the housing crash? Here's a fact: Current rates may rise or fall for various reasons, but not by much. You can start building equity right away instead of building your landlord's equity. Plus, there are no guarantees that rates will ever go down! There may be some truth to this in the short term, but if you plan on renting for more than a couple of years, it's in your best interest to consider a home purchase.
