Back-to-school season is almost here, and it’s a great time to remind students how to get to and from school safely. No matter how your family travels, these quick tips can help keep everyone protected.

Walking to school?
• Use sidewalks when available
• Cross at marked crosswalks
• Make eye contact with drivers before crossing
• Walk in groups when possible

Riding a bike?
• Wear a properly fitted helmet every ride
• Stay on the right side of the road with traffic
• Stop completely before crossing streets
• Choose routes with lighter traffic when you can

Taking the bus?
• Stand at least 6 feet back from the curb
• Wait for the bus to stop fully before boarding
• Make eye contact with the driver before walking in front of or behind the bus

Getting dropped off?
• Follow school zone speed limits
• Stick to your school’s drop-off procedures
• Never pass a bus that is loading or unloading children

Teen drivers?
• Make seatbelts non-negotiable for everyone
• Put phones and devices away
• Obey posted speed limits

As summer starts shifting toward fall here in Central NC, we’re reminded how much easier change feels when we’re surrounded by people who’ve stood by us through every season. This month, we’re sharing a uplifting story about five friends whose bond has only grown stronger over the years.

Since 1982, John Wardlaw, Mark Rumer-Cleary, Dallas Burney, John Molony, and JD Dickson have returned to the same cabin on Copco Lake in California to recreate the exact same photo every five years. The same five friends. The same spot. Four decades of commitment.

What started as a simple snapshot when they were 19 has turned into a lifelong tradition that distance, time, and change haven’t been able to break. It’s a powerful reminder that real friendships are built on consistency and showing up year after year.

This incredible event helps local kids head into the new school year feeling confident, prepared, and excited, with fresh haircuts, school supplies, snacks, and plenty of community support.

A huge thank you to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Ace of Fades for organizing an event that brings our community together and makes such a positive impact on local students and families. ✏️ BACK TO SCHOOL, BACKED BY COMMUNITY! 🎒💈

What an incredible day of neighbors helping neighbors! 💙

On August 9th, we had the opportunity to be part of a wonderful Back-to-School event that brought our community together to help local students start the new school year feeling prepared, confident, and cared for.

From fresh haircuts 💈 and school supplies 🎒 to snacks 🍎 and plenty of smiling faces, it was a day filled with the kind of community spirit we love to see.

A HUGE thank you to Liberty Mutual, the Sanford Rotary Club, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for helping make this event possible. It takes people and organizations willing to roll up their sleeves, give their time, and work together to create this kind of impact.

Hurricane season is here, and our team at Suggs Insurance Agency wants to remind our Sanford and Central NC neighbors how important it is to review your insurance before a storm ever heads our way.

Here are a few key areas to look at as you prepare:

• Hurricane deductibles – Some homeowners policies include a separate hurricane deductible based on a percentage of your home’s insured value. Make sure you understand what triggers it and what you’d be responsible for upfront.

• Flood and windstorm coverage – Standard homeowners insurance doesn’t cover flooding, and some unnamed windstorms may also be excluded. Now is the time to identify any coverage gaps and address them before severe weather hits.

• Filing claims – Before a storm, document the current condition of your home. After the storm, take photos and videos of any damage before cleanup begins, and keep receipts for repairs. This helps support your claim from start to finish.
