IRS Recordkeeping: Why It Matters More Than Ever!

🚨 The IRS is increasing audits on small businesses!

✅ Stay organized & compliant:

• Save every business invoice & receipt
• Keep all monthly bank & credit card statements
• Match receipts to statements—have both for proof
• Store records safely (paper or digital—IRS accepts scans)
• Hold onto everything for 3 years after filing taxes

💡 Tech like QuickBooks, Dext, and Expensify make it easy to stay IRS-ready.

Good records = protection, fewer penalties, and peace of mind!

As an individual or business there are a number of provisions contained in the year-end coronavirus relief legislation that may impact you.

The legislation extends the $300 charitable deduction (for cash donations) for taxpayers who do not itemize (known as an above-the-line deduction). It also increases the maximum amount that may be deducted on 2021 tax returns to $600 for married couples filing jointly. Keep in mind that for 2020 tax returns, $300 is the maximum allowed per tax return, regardless of filing status.

Did you know - Previously, the IRS issued guidance that notes that expenses paid with forgiven PPP loans would not be tax deductible. The COVID-19 relief bill passed Dec. 21 by Congress specifies that business expenses paid with forgiven PPP loans are tax-deductible. This provision applies to loans under both the original PPP and subsequent PPP loans.

Each situation is unique, please check out www.wscpas.us or contact our office if you’d like to discuss your situation further.
