🔐 Cyber Safety Tip: Think Before You Click!
Email is one of the most common ways cybercriminals try to gain access to personal information, accounts and devices. A message may look legitimate at first glance, so knowing the warning signs can make all the difference. 📧
Before clicking a link, opening an attachment or responding to an unexpected email:
• 🔎 Check the sender’s email address — scammers often use addresses that look almost right.
• 🚩 Watch for urgency or pressure — “Act now,” “Your account will be closed,” or “Immediate payment required” are common tactics.
• 🔗 Be cautious with links — instead of clicking, go directly to the company’s website or app yourself.
• 📎 Don’t open unexpected attachments, even when the message appears to come from someone you know.
• 🔐 Never send passwords, Social Security numbers or other sensitive information by email unless you know the method is secure.
• 📞 When in doubt, verify another way — contact the person or company using a phone number or website you already trust, not the contact information provided in the suspicious email.
A few extra seconds to verify an email could save you a much bigger headache later.
