September is College Savings Month — Let’s talk numbers.

The average cost of tuition and fees ranges from just over $20k to nearly $63k per year, but that’s not the whole story.

Many students receive aid from grants, loans, and scholarships to help pay for school, but there’s often still a gap. Savings can be a valuable tool to help manage those costs.

We're hiring financial advisors.

If you're ready to build something of your own — your own client relationships from the start, and senior advisors who help you figure out how you want to practice rather than handing you a process to follow — this may be the place for you.

Summer is when life tends to be busy. Moves, weddings, new jobs, a kid heading off to college — they cluster in the months when nobody has time for paperwork.

Fall is when people catch up. If something significant changed for you this summer, it's worth a look at whether your coverage and your plan still match your situation.

If any of that sounds like your summer, we're glad to take a look with you:https://www.dwassociates.com/contact

With school starting, it's a good moment to think about higher education and who's funding it.

If you have kids in your life who may go on to college, two questions are worth asking:

How much do you want to cover?
How do you do that while keeping your own retirement strategy intact?

Like most things in planning, deciding the goal now beats improvising later.

If you're weighing both, let's talk: https://www.dwassociates.com/contact

The largest position in your portfolio might be one you never chose to buy.

If you're paid in RSUs, your salary, your unvested shares, and your vested shares all depend on how one company performs.

So it's worth asking what percentage of your net worth is in company stock? And when shares vest, are you defaulting to holding without deciding to?

These are good questions to work through with your financial and tax advisors, since selling and holding both carry tax consequences.

Myth: Financial advisors just do investments.

Say you're 45, earning well, saving steadily, and your portfolio is working for you. What happens to that plan if you can't work for two years?

That question has almost nothing to do with your investments. It's about disability coverage, cash reserves, and whether your plan survives an interruption in income. A portfolio review won't surface it.

At David White and Associates, we look at how the pieces fit together — your investments, your coverage, and the tax picture in coordination with your CPA — and at what happens when life changes.

If your income stopped tomorrow, would your plan hold? Let's talk: https://www.dwassociates.com/contact

If you own a business, have you looked at your own retirement plan lately?

Not the company's books, but yours. Every spare dollar has somewhere to go, and people often choose to reinvest until the year they are ready to step back.

Ask yourself: if the business sold for what you think it's worth, would that fund the retirement you have in mind?

If you'd like to take a closer look, let's talk: https://www.dwassociates.com/contact

We're hiring financial advisors, and one question comes up more than any other: what does it take to get started?

Here's what the path looks like at David White and Associates:

- Licensing support, so you're not figuring it out alone.
- Time in client meetings early, alongside advisors with decades of experience.
- A team that shares what works instead of guarding it.

We're breaking down financial terms so you know what the jargon means and can feel confident in your financial decisions. Today's term is "diversification."

Diversification means spreading your money across different investments so that no single one determines your outcome.

It's easy to assume diversification just means owning stocks and bonds. But it also happens within each category:

Across companies and industries, so one struggling sector doesn't sink your plan
Across geographies, since U.S. and international markets don't always move together
Across company sizes, from large established firms to smaller growth-oriented ones

It also matters that your investments work together. A 401(k), an IRA, a brokerage account, and a spouse's accounts can each look well-diversified on their own while overlapping heavily once you view them side by side. Diversification works best when your accounts are treated as one portfolio rather than several separate ones.

Diversification doesn't eliminate risk, but it keeps any one investment from carrying too much weight.

A financial plan isn't only about money.

How will you transition out of a work-based identity into retirement? How do you want to spend your time? What have you been putting off until you had the room for it?

We help clients answer these questions before we talk about the numbers. Then we build the plan that gets you there.
