Have you been wondering when you can enroll in health insurance through Covered California? What the difference is between the open enrollment period and special enrollment period with Covered California? Understanding all the different health care enrollment times can be confusing, but we are here to help!

Open Enrollment
The open enrollment period takes place each year in the fall and winter and it’s when anyone can enroll in health coverage and members can renew and make changes to their current coverage.

Special Enrollment
Special enrollment happens all year long and it’s for Californians who experience certain qualifying life events, like getting married, having a baby, or losing other health coverage. In general, you have 60 days from the qualifying life event to enroll. Watch this video to learn more about special enrollment

The American Rescue Plan Signed into Law and provides new health insurance benefits. The new law increases premium assistance available through exchanges and removes the "cliff" that makes people ineligible for subsidies if their income exceeds 400% of the Federal Poverty Level for 2021 and 20222. New Benefits: Consumers at any income may be eligible for more final assistance, Consumers enrolled in Covered CA will not have to pay more than 8.5% of their household income, Consumers earning more than 400% of the Fed Poverty Level may be eligible for assistance for the first time, Consumers receiving unemployment compensation during 2021 may be eligible for maximum amount subsidies.
