Would you know a phishing message if you saw one?

As part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we're sharing tips to help you recognize and report suspicious messages.

Before clicking a link, opening an attachment or responding to an unexpected request, pause and think. Does the message create urgency or ask you to sign in, verify your account or share sensitive information?

Even messages that appear to come from someone you trust can be fraudulent. Trust the context, not the sender. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t just delete it. Report it.

Cybersecurity isn’t just about technology. The choices you make every day can help protect your information and the Cal Poly community.

⚠️ An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for San Luis Obispo through 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, with temperatures approaching 100°F.

Stay hydrated, take breaks, limit time in direct sun and use cooler indoor spaces when possible. Cooled common spaces on campus include Kennedy Library, the University Union, the Recreation Center and the Mustang Shuttle.

Students should monitor Canvas and Cal Poly email for updates, as some classes may move online. Employees experiencing extreme heat conditions at work should contact their supervisor.

Know the signs of heat-related illness and look out for one another. Call 911 for emergencies.

Welcome back, Cal Poly Maritime students!

Facilities teams were busy over the summer refreshing student housing, gathering spaces and campus grounds for the year ahead.

In student housing, teams refreshed 648 room and bathroom spaces, completed more than 450 patch-and-paint projects, repaired or replaced more than 420 pieces of furniture and installed more than 500 new blinds.

Students will also find new water bottle filling stations on the first floor of Lower Residence Halls A, B and C, along with updates to study and gathering spaces, including refreshed whiteboard walls, new carpet and new paint and furniture.

Outside, landscaping was refreshed around the waterfront palm trees, Maritime North, the campus entry and hillside areas.

Please join us in welcoming Julia Wallerce to Cal Poly! 👋

Wallerce joins Cal Poly Public Safety as senior director of Transportation and Parking Services, bringing more than 15 years of experience in transportation, mobility, parking and multimodal access.

“I look forward to partnering across the Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo area communities to advance mobility and access for all,” Wallerce said.

In her new role, Wallerce will lead Transportation and Parking Services programs supporting campus access, mobility planning and service to the university community.

More than 9,200 students will move into Cal Poly housing beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Expect temporary traffic, parking and transit changes Aug. 18-19, including road closures and changes to campus access. If you’ll be on campus, plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

🐑🚜 Campus is buzzing with summer projects that make Cal Poly even better—and some of our hardest workers have four legs!

While students are away, our sheep and goats are on the job, grazing the hillsides to reduce dry vegetation and help lower wildfire risk. Their natural landscaping keeps our campus safer, supports sustainable land management.

This work is part of Cal Poly's broader wildfire preparedness efforts and our commitment to managing the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI)—the area where natural landscapes and developed spaces meet. By reducing vegetation in these transition zones, we're helping create a more fire-resilient campus. 🌿🔥
