One of the 10 units within California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) Administration & Finance, University Housing helps create the foundation for student success 🏡💚

From maintaining residence halls to leading major housing initiatives, the University Housing team plays an essential role in shaping the residential experience at Cal Poly.

Their work includes helping lead Cal Poly’s 10-year Future Housing Plan — a $1 billion investment and the largest housing initiative in university history. The plan will add 3,500–4,000 new beds, renovate existing residence halls and create vibrant living communities designed to support connection, wellness and academic achievement, while making it possible for all second-year students to live on campus.

Whether responding to maintenance requests, helping students secure housing or planning for the future growth of campus, University Housing is committed to creating spaces where Mustangs can thrive.

SLO Move-Out Guide: Plan Ahead! ♻️

Moving out this summer? Help reduce waste and be a good neighbor by planning ahead.

Donate what you can and properly dispose of the rest. Avoid leaving “free” piles or overfilling trash/recycling bins.

Large items like couches, mattresses and furniture must be scheduled for pickup directly through the waste company. Please do not leave bulky items on the curb or beside dumpsters.

After 27 years of dedicated service to Cal Poly, Marlene Castaneda Cramer is retiring, leaving behind a lasting impact on campus transportation and mobility. 🚙 🚲 🚌

Marlene began her Cal Poly career in Biological Sciences in 1999 before joining Public Safety in 2000 as the Public Safety Business Services Coordinator. Through years of leadership and innovation, she advanced to become Director of Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) in 2018.

During her tenure, Marlene helped transform Cal Poly’s parking and transportation program through forward-thinking initiatives, including online payments, mobile payment applications, virtual permits and license plate recognition technology. Under her leadership, TAPS became a model program within the CSU system and earned national recognition, including achieving Accredited Parking Organization (APO) status in 2025.

Marlene also served as Chair of the CSU-wide Transportation and Parking Affinity Group and became the first woman President of the California Mobility and Parking Association.

Most of all, Marlene is proud of the culture of collaboration, innovation and service built alongside the TAPS team. In recognition of her commitment to sustainable transportation, she received Cal Poly’s Sustainable Staff Award in 2024. 🏆

Heading home or back to campus?

The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner is expanding service with a third daily round trip between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo starting May 4! 🚆

The new train will arrive in SLO at 10:53 a.m. and departs at 12:12 p.m., with an arrival in LA at 5:50 p.m.

For students without cars, this is a game-changer. Even better, riders 25 and under can save 15% on fares!

Our second topping out ceremony this month, and another major milestone forward!

This time, the signed beam was placed inside the final module of Building A, set to open in fall 2026. This project marks the CSU system’s first large-scale modular student housing development, designed to deliver more than 3,000 new beds.

Each step brings us closer to expanding access, supporting student success and shaping the future of campus living.
