Today, we celebrate International Women’s Day by honoring the strength, resilience, and boundless potential of women everywhere. Much like the children in the image walking a golden circle together, we recognize that when we support women, we create a continuous loop of progress and unity for future generations.

In the spirit of celebrating remarkable women, here is a tribute to the impact she leaves behind:

Voices that challenge the status quo. Ambition that fuels new discoveries. Nurturing spirits that build communities. Empowerment that breaks through barriers. Strength found in vulnerability and grace. Sisterhood that provides an unbreakable bond. Advocacy for a more equitable tomorrow.

Visionary leadership in every field. Intelligence that solves the world’s puzzles. Determination to rise despite the odds. Authenticity that inspires others to be themselves. Legacy that lights the way for those to come.

Happy International Women’s Day! Let’s continue to circle the world with support, equity, and celebration.

NCAA WATER POLO LESSONS
Control What You Can, Elevate Your Team

When I think about what made our LMU team successful, and what earned me a place in the record books, it wasn’t just talent. It was understanding my role and committing to it fully.

During the regular season, I focused on setting up my teammates and set the single-season assist record. But when the postseason came, everything changed. I found myself left open, and in that moment, my role shifted. I had to become the leading goal scorer of the tournament. Source: Wikipedia NCAA Division I Men’s Water Polo Final Four

That is the essence of being a great teammate: recognizing what your team needs right now, and rising to meet that need.

Controllables vs. Non-Controllables

Success, whether in sports or life, comes down to knowing the difference between what is in your control and what isn’t.

You cannot control if a referee misses a call, the weather on game day, or that your program’s budget is smaller than a Division I powerhouse. But you can control how hard you train, how you support your teammates, and how you prepare to contribute when your number is called.

That is where winners are made.

Mindset in the Margins

Championships are not only won on the field. They are won in the small, invisible moments. How do you use your time between practices or on the bench?

Are you frustrated about what others are doing wrong, or are you studying the game, staying ready, and focusing on what you can bring when it is your turn?

How you spend that one degree of time, that tiny margin, shapes how you spend all your time.

Final Takeaway

Postseason success happens when individuals stop worrying about what they cannot control and start doubling down on what they can.

When everyone commits to controlling the controllables, the entire team elevates. That is how you create something worth remembering.

VOTE: Should parents stay silent or stay home if they can’t resist coaching from the sidelines?

CLIFFNOTES for Parents of Athletes

Marvin Harrison Jr.—son of Hall of Fame receiver Marvin Harrison Sr.—recently talked about learning to be more assertive on the field. His dad, who played with Peyton Manning, had that “throw me the ball anyway” confidence every great athlete needs. Harrison Jr. admitted he’s still learning that mindset.

It’s a reminder for parents: confidence and leadership can’t be forced from the sidelines. Kids have to develop it themselves through reps, challenges, and mistakes.

Too often, parents act like couch quarterbacks—shouting plays or critiquing every move. But the truth is, most of the kids who grow up successful, own homes, and build stability aren’t the ones whose parents lived through their stats—they’re the ones whose parents taught resilience, independence, and self-belief.

Let your kid play, fail, grow, and find their own “throw me the ball” voice. That’s how champions—on and off the field—are built.
