We had an Outstanding Visitor’s Day last month!

This year marks a major milestone for our BNI R.I.S.E. Chapter as it is the 3rd anniversary when we launched as a new chapter.

It also marks the 5th anniversary of when I founded the chapter!

I am thankful for the guidance and support from Mike Macedonio, Dawn Lyons, and Susan Schwartz during this journey, and the awesome collaborative efforts from Mike Malik and Sergio Michel from the early years to help us get our chapter to the level that it is today.

I am also thankful for all of our current members of the chapter and their teams (Mike Malik, Sergio Michel, Chris Brooke, Jesse Chor, Ruth Melcho, Dida Goudreau, Darissa Acosta, Frank Dias, Meaghan Karabatsos, Nick Butler, Rajeev Krishnan, Shy Sayno, Dave Sherman, Shruti Raja, Paul Prouty, Dr. Gini Graham, Fuad Rahman, and Saad Akhtar) who worked over and beyond to make this event successful!

I’m flattered and moved by the recent student reviews I received!

This semester marks a major milestone for me: 

-3 years of teaching at Cerritos College, 
-Taught over 1000 students, 
-Taught over 30 classes,
-Spent countless hours dedicated to:
-building syllabi,
-updating case studies for courses to stay relevant,
-reading and grading assignments, exams, essays, discussions,
-writing letters of recommendations

It’s hard to believe, but this Thanksgiving is also my 5th anniversary of leaving tech.  

Just 5 years ago, I never could imagine that I would be teaching any class. I was always “that” shy, introverted techie that blended into crowds.  

I’m thankful and honored to have touched so many lives and in return, I’ve learned so much from each of my students!  

Looking forward to the next 1000+! It’s been a fantastic ride!

As we say goodbye to the 1st half of 2025, I wanted to reflect a bit on the classes I taught during my winter and spring semester for this year.

From the discussion sessions, office hours, and other conversations with students so far this year, I saw a major uptick in concerns and anxiety, compared to prior semesters.

Worries of layoffs, financial security, job replacement from AI, offshoring, business pivots, health coverage, depression—the students were much more vocal about these personal impacts to their lives and their families.

I’ve done my best to provide as much guidance and advice as I can for them. I’ve brainstormed with them to share their individual brands to recruiters. I’ve connected them to current and past colleagues. Reviewed resumes. Gave pointers. I’ve advised about pivoting to new careers. I’ve taught them why having a positive attitude is so important (and that can be trying at times). ��And for all of that, I’m so thankful for the lessons that my own students have also taught me. All of their wisdom enables me to help provide encouragement and support for my next group of students for this summer and fall semester.

I will definitely miss the views of the hillsides of Niles Canyon during the open houses. It’s awesome to see the cows ...
