The Los Angeles fires are exposing some things to be aware of regarding your property Insurance policies.

If property is in trust, please make sure the insurance policy is also under the name of your trust. Some insurance claims are in dispute of being covered or have been denied because insurance was under individual homeowner’s name(s) while title was held in the trust.

“Yes, a carrier can potentially deny a claim if the home is titled in a trust or LLC but the insurance policy is under the individual homeowner's name. This is because the ownership structure as indicated on the title must match the named insured on the policy to ensure proper coverage. To avoid a dispute or denial of claim it's crucial to add the trust or LLC as an additional insured on the policy.”
