Cash was flowing… until I was sitting across from a bankruptcy attorney.

Cash was rolling in.

Clients were happy.

On the outside, everything looked successful.

And then?

I found myself sitting across from a bankruptcy attorney as a single mom… wondering how I got there.

He gave me a piece of advice I’ll never forget:

“I don’t want to see you here again.
Go study wealthy people.
Find out what they do.
Change your habits.”

And for once, I listened.

I learned that wealth isn’t about luck, hustle, or being “good with money.”

It’s about habits, support, clarity, and leadership.

That moment changed the trajectory of my life and my business—because I decided to lead my money instead of running from it.

Girls don’t need to worry about money.’ That lesson almost cost me everything.

I didn’t get the husband.

I got the business… and eventually, the bankruptcy attorney.

I grew up as one of 10 kids with a father who ran his own company. When I asked him to teach me about money, he said the quiet part out loud:

“Girls don’t need to worry about money. Get a good education and a husband. He’ll take care of you.”

Well—I got the education.

I even got the thriving first business.

But I never got the husband… and the money skills I actually needed weren’t anywhere in sight.

Cash was rolling. Clients were happy. Everything looked successful.

And still, a few years later, I’m sitting across from a bankruptcy attorney wondering how the hell I got here.

Here’s the truth I wish someone had said sooner:

Financial leadership isn’t inherited. It’s built.

And when women don’t get those tools? The cost is real.

But the story doesn’t end at bankruptcy.

It starts again—with clarity, with agency, with learning the money skills my childhood told me I’d never need.

I lost my first business to bankruptcy.

A few years earlier, everything looked great on the outside — clients, cash, momentum.

But I didn’t have the financial education or support I needed to lead the money side of my business.

And like so many entrepreneurs, I thought that meant I was the problem.

It wasn’t.

You’re not bad with money — you were under-supported in a system that never taught us the basics and often left us out of the conversation entirely.
