One of the easiest ways to complicate a fundraise? Treating every investor conversation like a new negotiation.
Before you start taking meetings, know the terms you’re prepared to offer and be able to explain the thinking behind them. It gives investors clarity and helps you stay consistent throughout the process.
As Michael Maszy, Chair of Life Sciences & MedTech at Band of Angels, puts it:
“When you’re raising, have terms to present, not terms to negotiate with every investor.”
The takeaway: Decide what you’re offering before the conversations begin. Know your structure, understand your terms, and be prepared to explain them with confidence.
