We are absolutely expecting a nice little Santa Claus rally this year!

2005–2024, the Santa Claus rally has on average delivered a modest +1% lift to the S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq, with each index logging gains in roughly two-thirds of those years.

Investors have come to expect a year-end bullish bias, and indeed, in 14 of the past 20 seasons “Santa” delivered!

The remaining 6 years, Santa skipped Wall Street, coinciding with major bearish currents (e.g. the 2008 financial crisis, 2015 market jitters, 2022 rate-hike cycle). The most extreme Santa rallies (2008 and 2018) saw powerful relief bounces of +5% or more, while the worst years (like 2007’s pre-crash slump) brought small but telling losses.
