We are absolutely expecting a nice little Santa Claus rally this year!

2005–2024, the Santa Claus rally has on average delivered a modest +1% lift to the S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq, with each index logging gains in roughly two-thirds of those years.

Investors have come to expect a year-end bullish bias, and indeed, in 14 of the past 20 seasons “Santa” delivered!

The remaining 6 years, Santa skipped Wall Street, coinciding with major bearish currents (e.g. the 2008 financial crisis, 2015 market jitters, 2022 rate-hike cycle). The most extreme Santa rallies (2008 and 2018) saw powerful relief bounces of +5% or more, while the worst years (like 2007’s pre-crash slump) brought small but telling losses.

10/29/2010, I asked her to marry me. I can't believe it's been 15 years.

We met at a bar across from the ballpark in May of the previous year and with the way 2009 and 2010 were playing out, I was certain I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.

This first image is of Joanna and I sitting in the visitors dugout at Oracle Park moments after I proposed to her. This was the day after the Giants won the first two games of the world series at home.

I arranged a private tour weeks in advance to pop the question at a location that was meaningful during our courtship. You could say she is a good luck charm...The Giants went on to win it all in Texas... and she makes me feel like I am winning every day. ⚾🧡

Over the course of my career I have heard people refer to technical analysis as “voodoo” or “financial astrology”. I have come to recognize the practice as a valuable tool to understand the psychology of market participants.


ARM Holdings PLC, ticker: ARM
Ascending Triangle Breakout: flat double-top and upward sloping higher lows connect to form a triangle. If price closes above the top of the triangle, a breakout forms.

Ferrari NV, ticker: RACE
Rising Wedge Breakdown: upward sloping higher highs and upward sloping higher lows converge to form a wedge. If price closes below the bottom of the wedge, a breakdown forms.

T-Mobile US Inc, ticker: TMUS
Reversal with Triangle Breakdown: uptrend followed by a breakdown below the bottom of a triangle.

International Business Machines Corp, ticker: IBM
Double Top Breakout: two retracements from the same resistance level followed by a breakout to a new high.
