The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving (some) women the right to vote. The importance of female investment decision-makers as the gateway for women entrepreneurs to ascend the ladder of economic equality, cannot be overstated on the anniversary of this critical date in women’s history.

Looking back through the past century, this enormous victory for women was just the start of our journey to equal rights and women’s empowerment. The 19th amendment was far from inclusive of all women, as Black, Native American, and Chinese immigrant women were still denied the right to vote. Separate but equal is not equal, yet we have continued our march towards achieving equality.

Let us celebrate those who helped ratify the 19th amendment and elicit a motivation to complete their unfinished work by continuing to give women proper representation in government and access to economic freedom. Representation matters because women can not be what they can’t see.
