SF Community Alliance for Jobs and Housing

SF Community Alliance for Jobs and Housing We care about a thriving economy that is compassionate and prioritizes jobs, housing, and community.

The San Francisco Community Alliance for Jobs and Housing is a coalition of neighbors, businesses, and labor who work together to make San Francisco a livable place for all. Our neighborhoods make up the rich fabric of our diverse community, and we must work together to embrace policies that will ensure that we keep families and working people in our City. At a time of unrest and instability in ou

r national politics, the Community Alliance believes that we can make a difference in our own backyard. San Francisco is the economic center of the Bay Area and increasingly the country. We have a responsibility to promote the creation of high-paying, sustainable jobs for all San Franciscans by fostering a favorable business environment. As we continue to create the jobs, it is crucial that we address the housing crisis that is central to so many of the problems we face on a local level. If we can work in unity to address our housing shortage our neighbors can continue to live in San Francisco, families do not have to move to the suburbs for cheaper housing and better educational opportunities, working people can live close to good paying jobs in their communities, and our children will one day able to return to San Francisco and raise their families here. Through consensus-building and community organizing we can shape San Francisco to be a more diverse, inclusive, and welcoming place for all. Our membership works in concert to support community building, engage our neighbors on issues that affect them, and support legislation that creates good paying jobs and makes San Francisco a more affordable place to live. The Community Alliance is a member-supported organization and we rely on the of our members and affiliated organizations for financial support. Become a recurring member today and receive free admission to our community events, updates on important legislation, and calls to action on ways to get involved.

Today I am calling for a hearing and sending a formal letter of inquiry to San Francisco's public safety agencies regarding rearrests and parole. The system failed Hanako Abe and Elizabeth Platt on New Year's Eve, but what's even more tragic is that the failure to prevent their killing was not an isolated incident. San Francsicans deserve transparency, accountability, and public safety. It's past time they receive it.

After scores of people spoke for and against the Embarcadero Navigation Center, San Francisco’s port commissioners said yes — but a legal challenge is almost certain.

"San Francisco ranks a miserable 84th out of 100 regions in the country for economic inclusion...In 2017, earnings for white residents were $70,200, while for people of color, they were $41,500."

New data show San Francisco’s economy is thriving, and its prosperity is “the envy of the nation.” But median earnings for white residents far outpace those of residents of color, and the gap keeps getting bigger.

It can take a small business anywhere from 6 months to a year to get the necessary permits to open a storefront - and often they'll have to pay rent the entire time. If we want to reduce the number of vacant storefronts in SF, we need to streamline the permitting process.

A new report finds that SF building permit applications for commercial property alterations, additions and repairs in 2017 took an average of 172 days - that's nearly six months - to be issued.
