1979 Toyota Pickup - 🛠️Frame Off Restoration
This 1979 Toyota Pickup 4WD Black Package represents the most comprehensive restoration, a true frame-off build where virtually every component was addressed, refinished, restored, or renewed.
Finished in its original black over black configuration, the truck retains the character that made these early Toyota 4WDs legendary while presenting at a level rarely seen today.
The body was removed from the frame. The chassis was sandblasted, repaired, and powder coated. Suspension, steering, brakes, driveline, hardware, and running gear were restored throughout. The original 20R was professionally serviced, while the engine bay was stripped and refinished down to the individual brackets and hardware.
Inside, the cabin was brought back with OEM-style upholstery, carpet, headliner, restored trim, door panels, and weatherstripping - keeping the presentation faithful to Toyota’s original design.
Even the small details mattered. Factory-style graphics, refinished hardware, period literature, and the original character of the truck were preserved wherever possible.
Toyota tough. Museum grade.

1981 Toyota Pickup Deluxe 4WD 🫐

👉Finished in Medium Blue with period-correct side graphics, this 1981 Pickup has been restored by SoCal Vintage Collection while retaining the character that makes these early Toyota 4x4s so special.

🛠️Under the hood is Toyota’s legendary 2.4L 22R inline-four, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. The truck rides on 15” wheels wrapped in 33” BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires and features manually locking front hubs.

Inside, the cabin has been refreshed with blue cloth and vinyl bench-seat upholstery, along with a RetroSound stereo for a subtle modern upgrade without taking away from the vintage feel.

The long bed has also been refurbished, completing a truck that looks just as good parked as it does out on the road.

1982 Toyota Pickup SR5 Sport Truck.

A factory Sport Truck brought back to life by SoCal Vintage Collection

Finished in its distinctive factory brown and black two-tone combination, this short-bed SR5 represents one of our favorite configurations from the early Toyota 4WD era. This example is especially well equipped with factory air conditioning, power steering, and the rare factory sunroof.

The restoration included a fully serviced 22R engine with new gaskets and seals, Weber carburetor, aluminum radiator, new exhaust system, and a rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission. Inside, the SR5 cabin was completely refreshed while keeping the colors, materials, and character true to the truck’s original design.

For this post, we wanted to do something a little different. Rather than simply showing the finished truck, we took inspiration from Toyota’s original early-1980s brochures and created our own period-style catalog featuring the restoration.

Powered by the legendary 7.3L Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, this F-250 is finished in Light Prairie Tan Metallic with black lower bodywork over a Prairie Tan leather interior. Showing just 101k miles, it’s equipped with the highly desirable manual transmission, limited-slip differential, Banks Power air filter and gauges, and a host of factory Lariat features.
Purchased by the current owner in 2013, this truck has spent time in New Mexico and California and has been thoughtfully maintained throughout its ownership. Recent service includes a new alternator and dual batteries, starter, clutch assembly, and front brakes.
