Three Generations- The History of Horton Insurance Agency

Paul Horton served his country in the U.S. Naval Service from 1936-1960, WWII, and Korean War, he retired in 1960 as an E-7 Chief. Paul then went to work in the “bullpen” for Traveler’s Insurance on Broadway in Lemon Grove. Soon after, he decided to venture out on his own and founded Horton Insurance Agency in 1965. Horton Insurance has been family owned and operated ever since.

Sons, Todd and Tim Horton took over the business when Paul was ready to retire. They co-owned the business for 32 years. In January of 2014, Tim decided to retire and his nieces, Shannon and Melissa took over his book of business. April 1st 2019, Todd and Vicki Horton retired and Shannon and Melissa have taken over Todd’s book of business. We look forward to carrying on the legacy of Horton Insurance.

In this day and age many purchase insurance online, but back when Paul started the agency, he did business with a handshake. We have carried that personal touch with our agency over the years. Not only is our agency in it’s third generation but many of our clients are third generation policyholders. Larger insurance companies know you as a number, at Horton Insurance we know you by name. We like to do business by establishing bonds with our clients, everything is built on trust and relationships.

Our foundation for success has always been our relationship with our customers. We insure our clients as we would insure ourselves. By continuing to be an independent agent, we are able to provide our clients the best policy for their specific needs. We are able to help our customers by finding ways to cut costs without sacrificing coverage.
