For anybody out there insured with Farmers in California (just not with my agency), or for anybody who may be considering Farmers!
I've gotten a few emails and phone calls about this subject already, so I wanted to reach out to you all and alleviate any fears you might have.
Several news outlets have recently reported that "Farmers Insurance Direct" is leaving California. While this IS true, the article's title is very misleading. I want to be clear that this is NOT the Farmers Insurance you may think it is. It is a subsidiary of the Farmers Insurance Group that was "direct to consumer", where you had no agent and had to service your policy via call center.
While it's unfortunate to have another carrier leave the state, this was "by design" by our corporate leadership, to maintain the financial health and longevity of the company. I am not going anywhere, my agency is not going anywhere, and Farmers is not going anywhere. I have been told on multiple occasions in our territory meetings that Farmers Exclusive Agency Channel (my agency, and your policies) is not leaving California. Period. So hopefully you can rest assured that your business here is safe and stable.
There are eligibility changes and restrictions we're constantly dealing with right now, but the company has taken appropriate action to ensure the stability and longevity of Farmers in California. Our insurance industry is facing a multitude of issues, but I am confident in Farmers, and I hope you stay confident too.
