MY OPINION - Don't be surprised if the Board of Directors at Tesla doesn't urge the forced resignation of Elon Musk as CEO of the company. His polarization and competition has caused Tesla to lose market share and result in plummeting stock prices.

Economist are advising we are officially in a recession. If you look at the history of the markets this is actually over due. Since 1933 on average for every 7 years of market growth we've experienced 1 year of market decline. We've benefited from over 10 years of steady economic growth. A correction was due to come sooner or later. If your strategy is to invest for the long term the best advice is to stay the course.

SMALL BUSINESS & HEALTH INSURANCE - If you own or run a small business with employees there are certain things you have to be aware of when it comes to offering health insurance. The ACA mandates certain requirements must be met in order to avoid fines and penalties. Those include employers with over 49 full time eligibles must provide some form of health insurance. The employee monthly premium cannot exceed a certain percentage of monthly income. Part time employees count towards 1/2 of the total employee populace. Sounds confusing? Speak to a licensed healthcare specialist to avoid possible penalties.

DISABILITY INSURANCE - It's possibly the most overlooked and least sought after coverages available in the market but it is vitally important. Why? Statistics say at least 1 out of 3 Americans will suffer a major disability that will keep them out of work for at least 3 to 6 months. (Dept of Labor). Whether it be due to accident or a severe illness many of us will miss some significant time. Disability insurance is needed to fill that gap. Ask yourself what happens if I miss work and I'm not getting that paycheck? The bills still have to get paid.

Many large employers will offer some form of group disability to their employees either short term, long term or a combination of both with an option to buy up extra coverage. It's strongly recommended you do so. 5 states California, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. Puerto Rico have a state run disability plan paid for by tax dollars. Those states allow employers to offer a buy up. If you are a small business owner or self employed and currently do not have disability insurance there are several carriers that offer competitively priced plans. Talk to a professional.

GASOLINE PRICES - There is a lot of confusion over what or who influences the price of gasoline. Let's clear up some of the misconceptions. Contrary to popular opinion the government, the President & the White House has very little control over the cost of gasoline. Oil prices are triggered by supply & demand, production capacity and global stability or lack thereof. Right now the single biggest contributor to the high price of gas is our refining capacity. In otherwords America has plenty of oil. We just lack the ability to refine that oil and turn it into gas at a rate to keep up with demand. U.S. oil refineries purposely reduced production during the Pandemic as the demand for fuel was dramatically diminished. Since the time Covid restrictions were lifted the Oil industry never increased production as demands continued to increase despite runaway prices. This information may not help ease your pain at the pump but it's helpful to understand how all of this works.
