Medicare Parts A and B focus primarily on medical needs, so coverage generally applies to diagnosing and treating eye-related medical conditions rather than routine vision services. Many Medicare Advantage plans, however, do offer benefits for routine eye exams and other vision needs.

With National Senior Fraud Awareness Day approaching on May 15, I want to take a moment to highlight several scams that continue to target older adults. Staying informed is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself.

Tech support scams: Scammers claim your device has an issue and request remote access or payment for problems that do not exist.

Government or Medicare impersonation: Fraudsters pose as Medicare, Social Security, or other agencies to collect personal information. Legitimate agencies do not reach out unexpectedly to request sensitive data.

Family imposter scams: Criminals pretend to be a relative in urgent need of money and pressure you to act quickly.

Sweepstakes or prize scams: You are told you won a prize but must pay fees to receive it, which is a red flag.

Romance or investment scams: Scammers build trust online before attempting to exploit that relationship for financial gain.
