Opening day is finally here, and honestly, this is one of our favorite times of year around the office. Not because we all agree on football. Because we absolutely do not.

Our staff breakdown says it all: a solid crew of Cowboys fans, a strong Bears contingent right behind them, and then one lone supporter each holding down the Packers, the Saints, and yes, the Patriots (we let him stay).

That mix is what makes Sundays fun here. There's a special kind of joy in watching your team line up against someone you actually like's team, the trash talk that starts Monday and doesn't let up until kickoff, the side bets, the group text that goes silent when your guy gets sacked. Rivalry hits different when it's with people you genuinely care about.

Take mine, for example. I grew up in a Cowboys house and never quite fit the mold, always looking for a team to call my own. I found the Titans for a while, then followed a coach I believed in all the way to New England.

So here's what we want to know: what's the best fan rivalry story from your own household? The team that split the family down the middle, the kid who broke tradition and picked a different team, the in-law nobody invites over during playoffs. Comment below and tell us about it.

Another great year for our client appreciation event at the Missions game!

Thank you to everyone who came out to spend an evening with the Pontem team. Nights like this remind us why we do what we do. And a big thank you to our partners who helped sponsor the event and took the time to celebrate our clients alongside us.

The Pontem team has grown more in the past year than at any point in our firm's history, and we believe the best is still ahead. Already looking forward to next year.

Adam LeWin is the newest addition to the Pontem family. Born and raised in the rural community of Yoakum, Texas, Adam likes to joke that an early understanding of markets and economics came from attending local livestock auctions with his grandfather during his childhood summers.

While those auctions may have sparked an initial interest in markets and business, a genuine passion for finance didn't take root until years later, during his time at the University of the Incarnate Word. There, an opportunity to develop investment portfolios and provide advice as a Student Advisor for the UIW Student Managed Fund proved pivotal in solidifying a decision to build a career in the world of investments.

Everyone wants to make a difference, and throughout a career as a financial advisor, Adam has learned that the greatest impact comes through serving others.

Outside of work, Adam loves spending time outdoors, seizing any opportunity to reconnect with his rural roots through hunting, fishing, camping, or gardening. When not out in nature, he can usually be found in the kitchen, perfecting one of many family recipes.

🎓 Yesterday we celebrated National Intern Day!🎓

Ryan, our financial planning intern from Texas A&M, has been an incredible asset to our team this summer. His hard work, curiosity, and dedication to learning the ropes of financial planning have not gone unnoticed — he's brought fresh energy and a great attitude to everything he's worked on.

New research from The Aspen Institute looks at what it calls “essential wealth”: a benchmark for financial resilience and major life milestones.

The benchmark includes having six weeks of take-home pay in savings, along with enough net worth to support goals such as homeownership and retirement security.

According to the report, about 34.5 million U.S. households fall short of that threshold.

The estimated net worth needed varies by age group:
18-29: $40,000
30-39: $120,000
40-49: $265,000
50-64: $530,000
65+: $775,000 for a couple with no mortgage

These figures are broad estimates and can vary based on income, location, household needs, and housing costs.

The broader takeaway is that income alone does not always show whether a household feels financially secure. Savings, assets, debt, housing, and long-term goals all help shape the bigger picture.

Three in four American households lack the wealth to weather financial setbacks and achieve major life milestones.
