It’s National Payroll Week, aka my excuse to sing Gusto’s praises from the rooftops. 📣

If you’re not already using Gusto for payroll, here’s why I’m such a fan:

→ It makes running payroll simple and reminds you when it’s time to do it.

→ It walks you through registering for things like state unemployment and withholding taxes.

→ It’s not just for W-2 employees. You can pay 1099 contractors and even international workers, depending on your setup.

→ It helps keep important compliance requirements on your radar, including things like workers’ compensation when applicable.

Basically, it takes a process that can feel very overwhelming and makes it a whole lot easier to manage.

And if you’d rather not manage payroll yourself?

Walletkeeping offers payroll services starting at $150/month, plus Gusto payroll fees.

My challenge for every service-based business owner this September? 👀

Track every hour you work.

And yes, I mean every hour.

Those 5 minutes responding to DMs.

The 15 minutes planning tomorrow’s schedule.

The random admin tasks that somehow eat up half your afternoon.

It all counts.

You can use a tool like Toggl, keep a running tally in your Notes app, or use my personal favorite, Clockify.

It’s free, easy to use, and gives you the report you’ll need at the end of the month.

Then, take your monthly income and divide it by the total hours you worked.

That’s your effective hourly rate. 👀

And if you wouldn’t accept a job paying you that amount?

It might be time to take a closer look at your pricing, services, expenses, or how you’re spending your time.

Knowing your numbers is the first step toward making better business decisions.

Let's be honest...

It's a whole lot more fun when someone else handles the bookkeeping. 😉

Imagine you're out enjoying lunch with friends when an email from your bookkeeper lands in your inbox...

"Your July bookkeeping is complete."

No scrambling.

No wondering if your numbers are accurate.

Just clean, up-to-date books and a clear breakdown of what happened in your business that month. 👀

That's the peace of mind monthly bookkeeping provides.

You get organized financials, insights into your business, and more time to focus on the work you actually enjoy.

For all the business owners with burning mileage questions... 🚘

Like:

Does it count as business mileage if I take a client call on the way to Whole Foods?

What exactly does the IRS want to see in a mileage log?

And is there an app that can make tracking mileage basically brainless?

I put together a free guide that answers those questions and more.

Comment “MILEAGE” below and I’ll send it your way. 💬

Hey, hi... September tax deadlines are HEREEEE. 😅

Here’s what’s due September 15th ↓

Individuals: Third installment of 2026 estimated taxes

Partnerships: Extended Form 1065 + K-1s/K-3s, if applicable

S Corporations: Extended Form 1120-S + K-1s/K-3s, if applicable

Corporations: Third installment of 2026 estimated taxes

Basically, September said, “No one is escaping tax deadlines this month.” 🙃

If one of these applies to you, make sure it’s on your radar now, not September 14th.

And if keeping your books organized and staying prepared for deadlines feels like one more thing on your plate, we can help.

I’d keep this one casual and relationship-focused, while making the value of having the right people in your corner a little clearer.

You don't need every professional on your roster from day one...

But knowing who to call when ~things~ hit the fan? Very helpful. 😅

As your business grows, having trusted people you can turn to for bookkeeping, taxes, legal questions, and everything in between can save you a whole lot of stress.

I'll happily handle the bookkeeping side of things.

And when something falls outside my lane, I'll point you toward trusted professionals who can help. 📲

Because that business just tapped me in... 🫡

And I'm about to turn that neglected bank feed into clean, reconciled books with financial reports they can actually use.

Because catching up on bookkeeping isn't just about clearing out months of transactions.

It's about finally knowing:

→ How much your business is actually making

→ Where your money is going

→ Whether your accounts are accurate

→ What your numbers are telling you about the business

February doesn't scare me. 😌

If your books could use a little catching up too, book a free discovery call using the link in the first comment.

Business owners...

Stop scrolling for a minute and make sure you have copies of these documents saved somewhere safe. 👇

✓ Bank, credit card, and loan statements

✓ Receipts and vendor invoices

✓ Sales reports from payment processors like Stripe, Square, or Etsy

✓ Payroll reports, including deposit confirmations, tax filings, and W-2s

✓ Tax records, including returns, estimated tax payments, and IRS or state notices

✓ Bookkeeping records, like financial statements and reconciliation reports

✓ Business formation documents, including your LLC paperwork, EIN letter, licenses, and registrations

One more tip...

Don't let these documents live only on your phone or your computer.

Store them somewhere secure that isn't tied to a single device, like a cloud storage service. Your future self will thank you if you ever need to replace your computer or quickly find an important document.

Please tell me I wasn't the only kid who thought a brand-new planner was going to completely change my academic future. 😂

Every year, I was convinced that *this* was the year I'd have it all together.

Turns out, the planner wasn't the magic.

But when it comes to running a business, being organized really does make a difference.

The items on the next slide will make life easier for you, your bookkeeper, and your tax accountant.

And trust me...

Everyone appreciates a client who comes prepared. 😍

Before you feel personally attacked...

I'm *not* telling you to never use the "Ask My Accountant" category. 😅

It's completely normal to come across an expense you're not sure how to categorize.

But before you click "Save," do one simple thing:

Add a note in the memo section.

A little context goes a long way.

It gives your accountant a better starting point, and it helps you remember why you were unsure when you're talking about that transaction months later.

Something as simple as:

"I bought a new cell phone, but I use it for both business and personal purposes."

That's often all they need.

And if you'd rather not spend time wondering how to categorize transactions in the first place...
