Understanding Tricare for Life once military retirees turn 65 can be confusing and it requires in an indepth explanation of what exactly Tricare for Life is, and what it isn't.
First, Tricare for Life is not an insurance plan. It is what is called a secondary payer. That means, it pays for what standard Medicare does not pay for. Things like, co-pays, deductibles, and 20% of hospital and doctors bills.
There is a sister benefit entitled Tricare for Life Plus which is confused with Tricare Plus. And you cannot be enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan and Tricare Plus. They are conflicting primary care plans. So, be careful when turning 65 to look at all your options.
