God's Country Menudo Cook-off

God's Country Menudo Cook-off The GCMC is a "friendly" open competition for Menudo cooks in the small West Texas city of San Angelo....otherwise known as God's Country. The judging is blind.

The GCMC started out as a"debate" between friends as to which had the better menudo. A couple of weeks later, we put on our first event in 2012. We began taking donations and were able to donate a little amount of money to a very worthy recipient who was diagnosed with a deadly illness. So fast forward to last year, we have since added a Washer Pitching competition and we were able to raise $7000

and help out (7) families in God's Country. 2015 will be our biggest event yet and hopefully that will convert into our biggest donation day to date. For clarification....GCMC nor any of the staff receive one dime. Every penny we receive is donated to our recipients. All of the operating costs are covered, individually, by the GCMC staff and generous donations from the community. We tell you this so you can feel confident that 100% of your donation(s) will go towards the beneficiaries. We make this solemn pledge to you....our GCMC family. Lastly, yes this is a competition. Yes, there are cash prizes; and sometimes the egos run on high. For the GCMC staff the integrity of the menudo cook-off is imperative. We choose (5) different judges, from varying backgrounds and tastes to conduct the judging. Neither the menudo sample collectors, nor the GCMC staff knows, which sample belongs to which team. Each bowl is numbered and the votes are counted blind. It isn't until the ticket number is called at the announcement that the winner is identified. The GCMC is committed to brining you a very worthy menudo competition, washer tourney, but more than that, we hope to help members of our community that need our help. Let's keep this in mind, while we are out there making this the best year yet! Thanks for listening and thanks for your support!!! GCMC Staff

GCMC Ladies @ the Family Meal!!

11/03/2025

Good morning! CONGRATUATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS!!!

We had another very successful turnout this year! We are very grateful for those that were able to attend and donate to the event.

We would like to thank The Velez Family of course for allowing us to hold the event at "The Lots." There is no better place to have this event, but in God's Country.

We would also like to thank our major sponsors Walt's Auto and Chick-fil-A West Midland. Their contribution to the event is what allows us to operate and ensures that family's in God's Country are assisted. If you haven't seen the back of our shirts, please scroll down through our posts to see the other businesses that have graciously made contributions towards our event!!!

I'd like to thank Erin Hernandez for coordinating the judging and the results. It is a very stressful job and allows me to focus on the nuts and bolts of the machine; all the while, she keeps the integrity of the judging above reproach.

I'd like to also thank Sam Hernandez, Jeff Catlett and his daughter for keeping the front operating. Sam drove for 5 hours up and down Lake Drive shuttling people back and fourth! He only left the road once for a drink and went right back at it. He's a tough gorilla!!

Normally we are augmented by service members that work our front gate, which were not able to make it this year. Jeff and his daughter stepped up and worked the gate/entrance the entire day. Thank you Jeff and please pass on our thanks to your daughter!!!

We'd like to thank the Lambi Chi fraternity for sending some fine young men to help keep the grounds clean throughout the day! Nice work!!!

There were so many of you that jumped in and helped by providing donations for the bake sale, silent auction, family meal, raffle, too many to name. Thanks of your time and energy; we definitely would have been hurting without your support.

Roger & Yolanda Torres, thank you for hosting the Washer Tournament and arranging the T-shirts!!! These are 2 very heavy lifts and every year, you do it without issue!!! Thank you!!!

Every football team has star players like quarterbacks and wide receivers, but sometimes it all comes down to the little foot of that kicker. Every year, that is the case for GCMC. The GCMC ladies are able to do MANY little things to fill holes and make those kicks. From the planning, to the Silent Auction, Bake Sale, Raffles, ticket selling, ex*****on of the Family Meal, and much much more, thank you doesn't seem like enough. We couldn't do this without you!

The GCMC fellas always kick in and get the job done as well. From cleaning the lot, to rounding up donations and sponsors, making sure the grounds are safe, cooking the family meal and many more little things as well. Thanks for the heavy lifting!!!

And lastly, I'd like to ask for your prayers for those in need, those that are sick, those that have lost someone or are just going through some rough times. We really were missing an integral part of the event this year and we, The GCMC, need your prayers!! I don't want to go to another one of these without him.

If I missed anyone, I'm sorry but it just goes so fast! Thanks for all your help and God bless us all!!!

Roger Hernandez, GCMC President

Every year we are able to help "those in need" around the Concho Valley. We are only able to do this because of you and our generous sponsors!!! These are the Event Level sponsors!

Out of this group, there are superstar donors: Walt's Auto Sales and Chick-fil-A West Midland. Walt, Alejandra and Oscar make sure our mission is a success! Please patronize each of these sponsors. While you're there, please pass on our thank and let them know God's Country is great because of them!!!
