Beware of texts like these with links to click. This text message is likely a phishing scam attempting to steal your personal or account information. You may not have a Capital One account but texts similar to these can come from anyone. Please stay diligent and if you receive a suspicious text and are uncertain about it contact the company yourself, do not click any links!

The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office is receiving multiple reports of scam calls targeting our citizens.

Individuals are calling and falsely identifying themselves as members of the Sheriff’s Office, even using the names of real employees. These scammers may already have personal information such as your full name, date of birth, or other identifying details in an attempt to make the call seem legitimate.

The caller will often claim that you have:
* Missed jury duty
* Failed to appear for court
* Owe fines or fees

They then demand immediate payment, often requesting money through Bitcoin, gift cards, or other non-traditional methods.

THIS IS A SCAM

TGSO will NEVER call you to demand payment over the phone, request payment via Bitcoin, gift cards, or wire transfer, or threaten immediate arrest for failure to pay over the phone.

If you receive one of these calls –
1. Do Not Send Money
2. Hang up IMMEDIATELY!
3. Do NOT provide personal or financial information.

If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office directly using our official phone number.

Sheriff Hanna urges everyone to check on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who are often targeted in these scams.
