Cowboy Common Sense: Never stand on a gate, and always leave it how you found it.

This one’s one of the basics. Standing on it sags the hinges, and leaving it open means you’ll be spending your afternoon rounding up cattle that aren’t where they belong. Respect other folks’ property, and don’t make more work for the next guy.

Every ranch kid grew up with a few rules nobody had to explain. You heard them from a dad, grandpa, or a neighbor leaning on the tailgate, and you said yes sir and kept them for life.

Starting this week, we're sharing one cowboy-ism a week. Some are practical, some are a little salty, and some you won't understand until you're the one saying them.

We know we don't have them all. Finish the sentence in the comments: Daddy always told me... Mama, Granddad, and the neighbor down the road count too. We'll be sharing some of our favorites along the way.

Some things about the State Fair of Texas never change. Big Tex has been welcoming Texans since 1952, and every year the fairgrounds fill with families, friendly competition, and the hard work of young exhibitors who have spent months getting ready for their moment in the ring.

Happy Birthday to Chris Weadock! He’s our Commercial Lines Specialist, but equally as important, the lone gentleman holding down the San Angelo office. He’s outnumbered everyday and still shows up with a smile and a few good jokes!
