Stay safe!

Evergy is planning and preparing for a potential multi-day effort to restore power because of the winter storm headed toward our region. We have nearly 1,000 line and vegetation contractors ready to join our Evergy crews and staff to get power back on for our customers as safely and efficiently as possible.

Evergy’s power plant teams perform maintenance during fall, when power demand is lower, so the plants are ready to run through the winter, mitigating the risk of taking the plants offline. Power plants are staffed 24 hours a day. We will have extra staffing in place over the weekend to address potential issues.

The impact of the winter storm on power outages will depend on the conditions. Dry snow with little wind is unlikely to cause significant power outages. If wet snow accumulates on trees and power lines, its weight can cause damage to trees and power lines that may result in power outages. If ice accumulates on trees and power lines, it also can cause outages and the conditions are quickly made worse by wind.

👥 Community Support: People come first. Check on your neighbors, especially those who may need extra assistance like the elderly or disabled.
đź™… Downed power lines: Please stay at least 30 feet away from downed power lines or limbs on lines.
🏠 Maintain Indoor Heat: Seal windows and doors to retain heat. If safe, use fireplaces or wood stoves. Remember, never use outdoor heaters or grills indoors due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
📱 Stay Informed: Keep your phone charged. Follow updates from local authorities and your utility company for restoration times and safety advice.
🍲 Smart Food Management: Avoid opening refrigerators and freezers frequently to keep food cold longer. Have non-perishable snacks accessible.
🔄 Backup Plans: If you have a generator, use it safely, following manufacturer guidelines. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
Remember, preparation and staying informed are key. We're here to support you and work towards restoring power safely and efficiently. Stay safe and warm!
🔌 Understand Outage Dynamics: Power outages during winter storms can result from overloaded systems or damaged infrastructure because of severe weather. Please be patient as crews work tirelessly to restore power.

Be prepared ahead of time by downloading the Evergy App to report your outage with ease! https://www.evergy.com/about-evergy/mobile-app

❄️ Winter is Coming, Saline County! ❄️

As we prepare for a frosty weekend, remember: your home should be as cozy as a cup of hot cocoa! Here are some tips to keep you warm and safe:

1. Stock Up: Grab those snacks! Make sure your pantry is filled with comfort food—because nothing says "winter" like being snowed in with a stash of cookies. 🍪

2. Bundle Up: Layering is key! Think of yourself as an onion—only much cuter and less likely to make someone cry. 🧅

3. Stay Connected: Keep your phone charged and your battery-powered radio handy. You never know when you might need to tune in for weather updates or the latest gossip about the snowman competition! đź“»

4. Emergency Kit: Assemble an emergency kit with essentials. If the power goes out, you’ll want more than just a flashlight—think snacks, blankets, and maybe a board game or two to keep spirits high! 🎲

5. Check on Neighbors: Don’t forget about those around you! A quick check-in can go a long way—plus, it’s a great excuse to borrow that cup of sugar you forgot to buy. 🏡

Stay warm and safe, everyone! Let’s make this winter one for the books (or at least for the social media posts)!
