Ope, it’s National Pasta Day, and now I’m thinking about Grandma’s big Sunday pot of spaghetti. 🍝

Around the Midwest, the real debate is whether that pot is goulash or chili mac. And nobody’s measuring noodles. You just eyeball half the box… then wonder how the whole box ended up in there.

National Dictionary Day! Raise your hand if there's a dictionary on a shelf somewhere in your house that nobody's cracked open since high school. Today it earns its keep.

Here's my pick for best word in the English language: "ope." As in "ope, let me squeeze right past ya" in the grocery store aisle. Can't find it in the dictionary yet, but every Midwesterner speaks it fluently.

Happy National Cheese Curd Day, Missouri. Today we honor the unofficial state snack of the Midwest: fresh, squeaky curds, ideally fried and eaten too hot because patience has never been our strong suit. Around here the real debate isn't even Cardinals vs. Cubs, it's fried curds vs. fresh-from-the-bag curds. For the record, both answers are correct. If you've never had a curd squeak against your teeth, you haven't fully lived. So what's your order: fried, fresh, or "don't talk to me until the basket is empty"?

Happy National Dessert Day! 🍎 Around here, apple crisp is tough to beat this time of year. Pumpkin pie’s got a pretty strong case, too, especially if there’s whipped cream involved.

A few fall hacks for around Missouri:

Mow those leaves instead of raking. Less back-and-forth, more “yard work is done” before supper.

Stripped screw? Put a rubber band between the screwdriver and screw. Sometimes the simplest fix is hiding in the junk drawer.

And buy Halloween candy you don’t like. It’ll last right up until the kids get home. 😄

Sunday plans? The Hill sounds pretty good. 🇮🇹

The 159th Italian Heritage Parade & Festa is happening in the St. Louis area from noon to 5. The parade rolls from Botanical and Macklind down to Berra Park, with food, music, and plenty of neighbors out enjoying the day.

And it’s National Sausage Pizza Day, too. Well, now lunch has a plan.

Got any plans this weekend? Missouri is showing off a little. 🍂

The Best of Missouri Market at the Missouri Botanical Garden runs Friday through Sunday with 150+ artisans and live music. Soulard Oktoberfest is Friday and Saturday, and Brew in the Lou takes over Francis Park Saturday afternoon.

Des Peres Fall Fest is Saturday, with the pumpkin glow at dusk. Plus, there are corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and the Renaissance Festival in Wentzville.

Pick a spot, grab a jacket, and go enjoy fall around the St. Louis area. Before Missouri decides it’s winter overnight.
