A recent storm has just passed through, which means there could be damage—and unfortunately, “roofing storm chasers” may be going door to door.
Storm chasers are contractors from out of town or opportunists who follow storms around, using aggressive sales tactics to push roof repairs—often resulting in scams, subpar work, or even insurance fraud.
Here are some quick tips to protect yourself:
-Stay calm. If someone claims there’s damage, contact your insurance agent first.
-Confirm they’re local. Request a local address and phone number.
-Ask for credentials. Ensure they are licensed, bonded, and insured.
-Be cautious of prices that seem too good to be true.
-Don’t sign any contracts or allow inspections without fully understanding the details. Estimates should always be FREE.
-NEVER agree to offers that say they will “cover your deductible”—this is insurance fraud.
Choose a trusted, local roofing company instead!
Storm damage can be overwhelming, but making hasty decisions puts you at risk. Take your time, do your research, and work only with reputable professionals.
