The difference between credit unions and other financial institutions is that credit unions are owned by their customers. Once you use a credit union you are a member and earnings are returned to you in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and low or no fees.

MnCUN’s Chief Impact Officer Tara Graff was one of 53 credit union leaders to earn the CUDE designation, alongside April Crom (Altra FCU), Eaen O'Byrne (First Alliance CU), Jared Little (Wings Credit Union), Jeremiah Halloran (First Alliance CU), Steve Rahkola (NorthRidge Community CU), and Michael Vigen (Blaze CU). Caitlin Brama (Farm Credit Employees) served as a mentor.

Development Education (DE) uses transformative education, immersive events, and collaboration to reveal barriers to financial freedom and show how credit unions can address them.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Minnesota Credit Union Directors Conference this past weekend!

Over 80 credit union directors, board officers, supervisory committee members, and CEOs explored board leadership, governance, financial oversight, advocacy, industry trends, and the challenges and opportunities facing credit unions today. Attendees connected with peers, learned from expert presenters, and discussed practical strategies they can bring back to their boardrooms.

A few key takeaways stood out: strong boards drive strong credit unions, the cooperative model remains our advantage, and the future of our movement is something we shape together. Thank you for your service, leadership, and commitment to the members and communities you serve.

It's a Credit Union Thing is popping up all over Minnesota, from YouTube to neighborhood coffee shops, pizza boxes, sidewalk chalk art, broadcast radio, podcasts, and beyond. (Yup, we’re at the State Fair, too, so pop over to the myTalk 107.1 - Minneapolis/St. Paul booth Saturday and get some useful schwag!)

When you spot or hear the campaign, snap a photo or screenshot and share it, and tag us! Every share earns you one entry to win two tickets to see the Minnesota Vikings take on the Indianapolis Colts at home on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at noon.

Congratulations to Ideal Credit Union Credit Union on a century of serving members and strengthening communities across Minnesota.

Founded in 1926 as St. Paul Postal Employees Credit Union, Ideal began during the early days of Minnesota’s credit union movement, built on cooperation … people pooling their resources to help one another build stronger financial futures.

A lot has changed since 1926. Those first savings passbooks became apps. Checks gave way to digital payments. And we’re pretty sure nobody at that first credit union meeting was talking about mobile deposits.

But the heart of the credit union movement hasn’t changed.

For 100 years, Ideal Credit Union has grown alongside its members while staying rooted in the cooperative principles that started it all.

From all of us at the Minnesota Credit Union Network, congratulations to the Ideal team, its members, and everyone who has been part of this remarkable century.

Here’s to the next 100 years, Ideal! Enjoy celebrating tonight!
