If you believe you're ready, you're ready.

When I quit my job to start WatersEdge Wealth Management, I wasn't ready by traditional standards.

I was a single mom with little savings and no equity.

But I was suffocating in a comfortable Financial Advisor job. I was working for someone else, following their rules, building their vision instead of my own.

If I stayed, nothing would change. So the only option was to leave.

On paper, I shouldn't have done it. But I had something more important:

I believed it was going to work.

Not hoped. Not wished. Believed.

I had Beth Navara, a team member and longtime friend, who saw my vision. We never talked about "what if this doesn't work?" We just believed it would. There was no Plan B.

And it did work. More than seven years later, WatersEdge is thriving and I'm doing exactly the work I was meant to do.

Here's what I've learned:

You can prepare forever and still not be ready if you don't believe it's going to work. And you can be wildly unprepared but absolutely ready if you believe with your whole being that you're going to make it work.

That's the difference. Readiness is about belief, not preparation.

So what are you waiting to feel ready for?

If you can't continue to exist the way you're existing, if staying means suffocating, if the only option left is to leave... then you're already ready.

You just have to believe it. 💜

Two weeks before my father died, I came home from work to find him sitting on a stool in the kitchen.

He was 90 years old and weak from cancer, but there he was: mixing a batter for pizzelle, those thin, crispy Italian wafer cookies he'd been making for decades.

For more than twenty years, my dad ran a restaurant. He started with a hot dog stand when he returned from the war, and when he got married, he moved back to his hometown and took over a local restaurant with rooms upstairs and a restaurant downstairs. It was home-cooked food with an Italian flair.

I was only three by the time the restaurant closed, but I still remember the old-fashioned ice cream counter with the big tubs.

For nearly 40 years after he left the restaurant, he continued to create beautiful meals at home.

I remember coming home from school and there would be pizza baking and peppers roasting in the oven that he would deluge in olive oil with garlic cloves. He'd be making bread. At Thanksgiving, he would whip up 10 pies like it was nothing. There was always something, some food delight happening in our kitchen.

We'd have people over for dinner all the time, and they'd always tell me how good my dad's food was. And I'd think: “Yeah, I know. No one makes food like my dad.”

After he passed away, his greatness truly sunk in.

So it was no surprise to me that, in what would be the last two weeks of his life, he was still there making food for us. Not because he had to or because anyone asked, but because feeding people, taking care of people he loved through food, was his single biggest passion and the gift he wanted to share with the world.

We throw around the word "passion" a lot. Follow your passion. Find your passion. Monetize your passion.

But watching my father make pizzelle two weeks before he died taught me what passion really means.

True passion is the thing you'd do even when your body is weak. Even when no one's watching or paying you for it.

As we head into Thanksgiving, I'm thinking about passion that shows up in small, daily ways. About the thing that keeps you going all year, not just when things are easy.

My wish for you this season is that you find, or reconnect with, whatever your pizzelle are.

The thing that lights you up. The thing you'd do even when you're tired, uncertain, or weak.

And if you're like me, and you're not totally sure what that is right now?

That's okay too.

Maybe the search itself is part of creating your own lane.

Maybe asking the question (‘what really drives me?’) is exactly where we need to start.

"Should I self-fund?"
"What is best for me?"

This is one of the special events we like to hold for our ; this time, though, we're delighted to invite YOU to attend!

It's Long-Term Care Awareness Month and we are ready to help you plan and prepare here at WatersEdge! Check out our recent blog post for some important information:

“When should I buy LTCI?

Well, here’s the short answer. If you are between the ages of 50 and 65, you should at least consider the benefits of buying LTCI.
Why? Well, the longer one waits, the more costly the coverage will be…and yet, you don’t want to start too early, either! It’s tricky.

Now, you’re probably wondering: So, how many options do I have, really?

And the answer is – a lot. Keep these hints and tips in mind:
• Traditional LTCI now offers flexibility so you can design a plan that addresses your specific needs.
• Traditional LTCI may qualify for your state’s Partnership Program, meaning that every dollar in benefits paid from a LTCI policy will allow you to protect a dollar of assets should you ever need to qualify for Medicaid.
• Hybrid Products or Linked Benefit Products - options to use a life insurance policy or annuity to create a tax-free LTC benefit"

🦃As if November isn’t busy enough!

Besides Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday, an upcoming holiday season, and of course the changing weather (at least in our neck of the woods), November is ALSO Long-Term Care Awareness month.

Long Term Care Insurance has changed a lot over the past few years; insurance companies seem to have realized they need to offer more enticing options to savvy seniors.

Kathy Korman, our Director of Client Services here at WatersEdge, wrote a great blog for you about LTCI; check it out!

👻‘Tis the spooky season and so recently we've been thinking of that oh-so-frightening question:

What scares you the most?

As if that isn’t enough fear this Halloween season, here’s something else we've been hearing recently (not from our clients, but from friends of friends and some colleagues, too).

Why, they wonder, isn’t my financial advisor talking to me right now?

And so we're curious: is YOUR financial advisor ghosting you?

We don’t agree with that philosophy at WatersEdge.

We believe our role is to guide you through your fear, to encourage you to open your eyes, look around you, and realize that while those ghosts and goblins are frightening, they aren’t going to hurt you, in the long run.

If you’re feeling ghosted, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here for you – even at the scariest time of year.

It’s interesting to think about how the ongoing conversation about hybrid work might be different if the conversation were client/customer/constituent focused rather than being primarily about trying to get employees to come back into an office space. For those of us in the client service industry, we think the conversation might be different if it centered around the question: What do clients want?

Do THEY want to keep meeting via Zoom? Do THEY want to meet you in an office environment? Do THEY want you to meet them somewhere – their home, a coffee shop, a sandwich place?

We think the answer is a resounding YES and, because of that, we’ve just made a big change here at WatersEdge Wealth Management.

In case you didn’t know, we’ve MOVED!

Our new office location is a shared office space situation at Coco, a hybrid and flexible collaborative work environment located at the Grain Exchange in downtown Minneapolis. We have leased a private office where we can work in our own space amongst others.

We've been thinking.

Is there something magical about a business's 5-year anniversary? Our founder, Susan Cevette, wants to know because, she says: "Things are suddenly moving at an incredible pace, clicking along nicely, and it really feels like, after 5 years, WatersEdge Wealth Management is suddenly becoming the business I always knew it would become!"

For the past 5 years, we've kept our heads down, we've kept moving forward. We got through the first year as a new startup, we managed to survive a global pandemic, we got whiplashed with a bear market…and more.

And yet, here we are, 5 years in, and serving clients every single day.

In some ways, hitting year 5 is such a big deal that we don’t even know how to make a big deal about it.

And we're curious: why do YOU think 5 years is such a milestone? Have you had the same experience? Or is your experience totally different?

And if you’d like to read more about what we’re up to after 5 years, here’s Susan's latest blog post:
