The Service Bay Blindspot.
Most business owners think commercial general liability covers every accident on company property. It stops right at customer-owned vehicles.
If a technician backs a customer car into a lift column or an electrical fire starts in the service stall, general liability denies the physical vehicle claim. That protection requires specific garagekeepers coverage.
Talked with an auto shop owner out in Suffolk County who thought his baseline policy had him covered until a hoist failed during an oil change. The structural damage to his shop was covered; the client's sedan was not. Repairing that vehicle out of pocket ate his profits for the entire quarter.
Checking that specific gap takes five minutes with the right endorsement.
Did your carrier separate your garagekeepers coverage from your main liability policy, or are you assuming it is bundled together?
