ABRAHAM LEADS GENEVA’S DEFENSIVE STANDOUT PERFORMANCE, EARNS STATE FARM PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Geneva’s gridiron victory over Wheaton North last Friday demonstrated that the Vikings are more than just an offensive powerhouse. Sparking the team’s best defensive performance of the season, senior safety Alex Abraham recorded three tackles and snagged an interception. Abraham played a major role in a defensive effort that held Wheaton North to just 207 total yards, limited them to 12 percent on third down, and allowed only 14 points. Abraham, who wears No. 9, was selected by Geneva’s varsity coaching staff as the State Farm Player of the Week for Week 8 of the 2026 season.

"Alex’s second-quarter interception, his team-leading fourth of the season, helped set the tone early and gave our defense momentum that carried throughout the night. Alex continues to be a playmaker for us and a key leader on that side of the ball," stated Geneva Head Varsity Football Coach Troy “Boone” Thorgesen. Coach Thorgesen presented Abraham with a specially inscribed Player of the Week football.

The Player of the Week award recognizes players who have made an exceptional contribution to that week’s varsity football game and demonstrated the ideals of the Viking football program. Celebrating its 16th season, the State Farm Player of the Week award is made possible by the donation from Agent Bill Nelson of commemorative footballs custom-printed with the opponent for each regular season game. IGNOFFO EMERGES AS KEY TARGET ON TALENTED VIKING OFFENSE AND EARNS STATE FARM PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Geneva wide receiver Luke Ignoffo maximizes his role as the No. 2 receiving target to provide a reliable and often sly option for Viking quarterback Ben Peterson. In last Friday’s 62-35 win over Glenbard North High School, Ignoffo caught four passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns, eclipsing the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career. The junior has had 24 catches for 492 yards and seven touchdowns so far this season. Ignoffo, who wears No. 1, was selected by Geneva’s varsity coaching staff as the State Farm Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2026 season.

"Luke had a great game for us last Friday night. He made an impact offensively with his big-play ability and yards after the catch. Luke also contributed to the run game with great blocking all night, helping create opportunities for his teammates," commended Geneva Head Varsity Football Coach Troy “Boone” Thorgesen. NINNI AND THE O-LINE POWER GENEVA VICTORY OVER BATAVIA; NINNI NAMED STATE FARM PLAYER OF THE WEEK

In last Friday’s high-scoring Viking victory over conference rival Batavia, Joey Ninni barely left the field. Playing center on offense and defensive tackle on defense, Ninni made an impact on both sides of the football. He was an important part of the offense’s 349 rushing yards, which is the most by a Geneva team in a single game in the past 10 years. Ninni and the offensive line didn't allow a single sack for the entire game and finished with over 580 total yards of offense and 56 points. A senior wearing No. 50, Ninni was named State Farm Player of the Week for the sixth week of the 2026 season by the Geneva varsity coaching staff.

"Joey and the Geneva O-line opened big holes all night against Batavia, elevating our rushing attack. Joey was on the field for most of the match-up and competed with great effort, toughness, and intensity.
