Last week my team and I helped a couple in their mid seventies make the switch from a variable annuity, which had high fees and was open to market loss, to a great fixed annuity offering some serious incentives. Our carrier partner provided a bonus in addition to the guaranteed growth interest rate and zero-net floor provided by fixed annuities. I am happy our team found a solution that helped my clients make more money just by rolling over funds, have lower fees, enjoy a guarantee that their money won't loss value, have access to an additional bit of Long Term Care benefit, and see their money grow beyond the guaranteed rate when the market preforms well. My clients can even take up to 10% from the account without incurring a surrender fee.

Senior Staff writer of Forbes magazine, Robin Rothstein has been watching the housing market closely. This month Redfin reported nearly 15% of U.S. home purchase agreements fell through in June, up 1% from a year ago and the highest June figure since tracking began in 2017.

Her over-all article suggests as Nicolas Godec puts it, β€œThe era of broad-based, rapid price appreciation appears over, replaced by a more selective environment where local fundamentals matter more than national trends.”

It is more important than ever to turn to a local, experienced realtor with excellent problem solving skills for the answers and results you need to accomplish your goals. The much-anticipated spring home-buying season never bloomed. In truth, it hardly even budded. Now, housing market stakeholders are looking to summer for a potential rebound, hoping that growing inventory and slower home price appreciation will entice buyers off the sidelines by offering more opt

Understanding Annuities

Annuities are contracts between an individual and an insurance company. The individual makes a lump-sum payment or series of payments, and in return, the insurance company makes periodic payments to the individual immediately or at a specified future date.

Annuities have emerged as a suitable insurance product for many in recent years. 2025 has been particularly pivotal, with a significant rise in individuals purchasing annuities. I have and article that explores this trend and why investors add annuities to their retirement income strategy.

Please message me for a copy of the article. In a scheduled appointment, we can also discuss how an annuity can benefit your retirement program.

I was recently asked, rather bluntly, "What makes you think you are good at helping people plan for retirement?" I was glad I had a thoughtful answer ready.

1. Experience
2. Diversity of Index
3. Follow-Up

"The first quality every person wants in an advisor is experience and longevity. When talking about finances, it helps if an advisor has worked through different up and down turns of the markets because they have seen and felt exactly what great movement in markets means and what that looks like in accounts they have helped to manage. So ask an advisor how long they have had their licence or how long they have been practicing. It's ok if the person has not been in the field for long. They do need to show that they have partners, team-leads or co-workers that they can leverage who do have longevity and be sure to have those people meet with you to review any illustrations or documents the less-experienced person has shared. The more senior advisor should also commit to being available when requested in addition to the less experienced person.

The second characteristic is in the advisors choice of indexing. Specifically speaking about annuities and well-structured indexed universal life plans, the growth of these wealth vehicles is based from an index like the S&P500. There are many indexes an advisor can choose from to support the plan they have created for you. A good advisor will use at least two, possibly up to four because not every index will rise and fall the same time other indexes do and the amount of the rise and falls can differ as well. Be very cautious of an advisor who has chosen to use only one index as the basis for a plan because if that one index performs badly then there are no others to offset that loss of growth.

Another behavior that separates a good advisor from a bad one is contact. A good advisor will contact you by phone or in-person meeting at least once a year to go over how well your portfolio has performed. They will ask if there are any changes you would like to make to your wealth plan and may offer help if you have something new you would like addressed. If the markets have taken a significant up or down-turn the advisor may contact you sooner than once a year to explain where your account has landed due to market movement."
