"My name is Samantha A. Elizalde (she/her(s)/ella) and I am from Fontana, California. I attended Sac State where I received my B.A. in Political Science and served in several positions for the Associated Students, Inc. including student body president where I represented more than 31,500 students on different issues areas such as basic needs, mental health, college affordability, and pandemic recovery. I also took part in the Sacramento Semester Program where I interned for the California Student Aid Commision and was a part of their government relations team. My passion for serving others coupled with my own identities as a Latina first-generation college student is what motivates me to continue to expand my knowledge and be a part of the legislative and policy-making process. I applied to be a Fellow because I knew that this would be an opportunity to be a part of the policy making process and represent the people of California through hands-on experiential learning. This opportunity is unique being that it is the beginning of many of our careers in public policy and we have a wide range of resources to guide us through the year. I wanted a learning experience that will help me grow personally and professionally, but I also wanted to feel like I had a community and support. The Assembly Fellowship Program provides just that. I am placed in the Office of Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gomez Reyes. Currently I am staffing bills, issue areas, meetings, and much more! I have learned so much about the bill introduction process and drafting a bill. There is so much work that goes into it and I am glad that I get to be a part of the process. Something that I have really enjoyed about my fellowship is the connections that I have been able to build both within the fellowship and in the capitol community. These are long lasting relationships that I will cherish greatly." Application deadline for 2023-24 Assembly Fellowship is February 6, 2023 at 5:00 pm (PST). Apply now! https://ccsapply.smapply.io/

"Hello! My name is Andrew Nickens, and I graduated from University of California, Davis. Before becoming an Assembly Fellow, I served with the Student Senate for California Community Colleges as its Vice President of Legislative Affairs. The Assembly Fellowship is a training ground for future capitol staff. It is the best way to start a career in the Legislature, and anyone who feels a calling to public service will find a home working in the Legislature. I was placed in Assemblyman Vince Fong's Office working on wildfire prevention, transportation, and higher education issues. My supervisors have shared lessons from their extensive experience in communications and budget and legislative process. Despite being only one month into my placement, I have already learned so much. The Fellowship is not a solitary experience. Throughout the entire process, I have relied upon my colleagues in the cohort, the supportive program staff, and the mentorship of the broader capitol community. Everyone is invested in your success and at every step in the process I felt supported." Application deadline for 2023-24 Assembly Fellowship is Monday, February 6, 2023 at 5:00 pm (PST).
