For decades, scams and schemes have been occurring where thieves call unsuspecting victims, claiming a loved one is in jail or that they have a warrant for their arrest, and then demand payment with a debit card. Sometimes, these individuals portray themselves as employees of the sheriff's department and/or bail bondsmen.
Please share this video nationwide, as this is not just happening in Sacramento, It Is happening nationwide. We do not want anyone to be scammed out of money. If you or a loved one receives a call as described in this video, take steps to verify the call by contacting your local law-enforcement agency and/or a trusted source, such as a legitimate bail bondsman.
Even in our profession as a Licensed Bail Agent, there are bail bondsmen who will "cold call" people, telling them someone is in jail without being asked to do so. This practice is gross and needs to be stopped. Beware of these scams, especially if you are an elderly person or someone who might not understand what is going on and can fall victim to a financial scam.
Thank you, Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper, for putting this post out to the public. https://fb.watch/CV9vAoZFhF/?mibextid=wwXIfr&fs=e
