Efficiency is key! Right???

In today's world we try and optimize everything. Our phones track every step, our watches track every second of sleep, everything we do we want to be efficient!

Which isn't a bad thing, but sometimes it can be overkill.

With your personal finance it is important to remember that not every single dollar you have needs to be optimized to generate wealth.

With interest rates rising, some high yield savings accounts have become very attractive for people to park cash in. So much so that I get the question "Should I switch savings accounts to get an extra .02% return?"

I get it we want to optimize everything, but don't forget what the money is there to accomplish! We are not going to get rich off of our emergency funds. That is not what it is there for.

Don't forget the job that each bucket of money has for you. Don't get caught up in trying to make every dollar you own be a wealth building tool.

One of those mornings...

Woke up and my dog decided my living room floor was the best spot to use the bathroom.

After I cleaned it all up, I knocked my coffee over and spilled all over the same floor.

I get to the office the internet won't connect to my laptop.

Some days just go that way! I was inspired by a couple I spoke with last night to not make any excuses. They were 62 and 65 years old, wanting to buy a home and were behind on retirement investing.

They could've used any excuse in the book but all they said was "tell me where to allocate the money and we will do everything we can to get this done!"

A tractor on a race track... just doesn't quite seem fitting. If you need to plant your field it's great, but not the ideal choice for a high speed race.

I get this question a lot. "I really want to invest more money to build my net worth. Should I invest in my Roth IRA, my 401K, our 529 plans for our kids, my savings account or my non-retirement account......?"

A lot of times I find that people don't truly understand what each account is for.

You wouldn't want to use a tractor for a NASCAR race and you wouldn't want to use a Roth IRA to fund your home remodel goals.

Every account type serves a specific purpose it's important to know the reason behind why you are using them!

Don't get caught showing up to the race with a tractor when you wanted a sports car.

Don't try and early withdraw from your Roth IRA to fund a new car purchase.

Both instances you are setting yourself up for trouble!

When we have high expectations of something, it can hurt even more if things don't go right. Whether it is your favorite sports team or your favorite investment, unmet expectations can create volatile emotions and price movements! I just couldn't help but to bring in the heartbreaking high school basketball story as a metaphor!
