Our mission is to serve with compassion while striving for excellence, and few things bring that to life quite like showing up for our neighbors when they need us most.

We are proud to share a $90,000 contribution in support of MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Portland's new Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing (EmPATH) unit.

The EmPATH unit will provide a calmer, safer and more supportive environment for patients experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis, while helping ease pressure on the hospital's emergency department.

"Supporting the EmPATH unit is a meaningful way for us to live our values," says Mark Jones, President and CEO of S**o & Biddeford Savings. "This project will help ensure that individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis are met with compassion, dignity and timely care in an environment designed for safety and healing."

Patients who arrive at the MHMMC Portland Emergency Department (ED) with acute behavioral health needs will soon have access to an emergency space that is more conducive to healing.

Yesterday, we cut the ribbon on our new Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing (EmPATH) unit, a partnership with MaineHealth Behavioral Health. This space is designed to help treat and stabilize patients with acute behavioral health needs, and will free up beds in the ED for patients needing care for acute physical ailments.

We hope it will allow all of our ED patients in Portland to receive the care they need in a more timely manner and in an appropriate environment.

Westbrook Kids Safety Day is right around the corner! 🚲🧯

Join us on September 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hannaford and S**o & Biddeford Savings parking lots on Hannaford Drive in Westbrook for a free day packed with family fun, interactive demonstrations and valuable safety education.

Don't miss:

• Fire trucks and ambulances
• Bike rodeo and helmet safety checks
• K-9 demonstrations
• Crime scene and vehicle extrication demos
• CPR demonstrations
• SWAT and motorcycle displays
• Smokehouse and seatbelt simulator

Last night we had a fantastic time on the deck at The Porthole Restaurant & Pub for the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce's first Business After Hours of the 2026 to 2027 season. It was great to connect with so many of the region's business leaders right on the water.

As the season sponsor of Business After Hours, S**o & Biddeford Savings is proud to support the events that bring the Greater Portland business community together. Our Portland Market Manager, Jake Vanidestine, even had the chance to address the crowd and share what these connections mean to us.
