Are yβall ready? Please make preparations now.. not later! πͺοΈ
βΌοΈSIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER THREAT later TODAY for STRONG TORNADOES (EF2+) and SEVERE WINDS over 75+ mph possible! Large hail greater than 2β also possible!
A long, fast-moving squall line will develop this afternoon and move east across the Mississippi Valley, bringing the potential for widespread damaging winds and tornadoes.
β‘οΈ PRIMARY THREAT
π¨ WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS
Wind gusts 60β75+ mph are possible, with localized stronger gusts possible as storms mix down powerful winds just above the surface. This could lead to corridors of significant wind damage along the leading edge of the squall line across the Mid-South and Lower Mississippi Valley.
πͺοΈ TORNADOES POSSIBLE: A couple of STRONG tornadoes are possible, especially with embedded circulations within the squall line or storms that briefly form ahead of it.
β οΈ GREATEST TORNADO POTENTIAL: From northeast Arkansas into the Mid-South and Lower Ohio Valley, including southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and western Tennessee.
A narrow corridor of better moisture returning northward ahead of the cold front may allow storms in this region to rotate more efficiently, particularly along the leading edge of the squall line.
There may also be a brief window for storms to develop ahead of the line, which could increase the potential for strong tornadoes before the line overtakes them.
β‘οΈ ADDITIONAL STRONG TORNADO RISK LATE TONIGHT: A separate tornado threat may develop late tonight across the Florida Panhandle, southeastern Alabama, and southwest Georgia, where stronger instability and wind shear may support supercells capable of producing strong tornadoes.
β±οΈ THE TIMEFRAME:
β’ Late Afternoon β Evening: Squall line develops across the Mid-South
β’ Evening: Damaging winds and tornado potential increase
β’ Late Night: Additional tornado threat along the eastern Gulf Coast
β οΈ BOTTOM LINE: Expect a fast-moving squall line capable of widespread damaging winds with embedded tornadoes this afternoon and evening/overnight
β οΈReminder since severe weather WILL progress through the overnight hours, DO NOT SLEEP NAKED! Be weather aware & have more than one way to receive watches and warning!
