There is a very concerning trend that seems to be taking place with Auto Dealerships. If you buy a new or used vehicle it is YOUR responsibility in North Carolina to notify your insurance agent/insurance company to add the vehicle to your insurance policy. Even if the dealership tells you they will do this it is STILL YOUR RESPONSIBILTY to follow up!!! In the past month I've had two customers that purchased new vehicles and we were not notified!! One resulting in probably a fine because they were past 30 days of purchase with DMV. The law allows you 30 days in North Carolina to get your vehicle added to your insurance policy. Here is the actual verbiage on the department of insurance website: Yes, as long as you notify the insurance company within 30 days after acquiring a new vehicle. Additional vehicles will have the broadest coverage of any vehicle listed on your policy. Replacement vehicles will have the same coverage as the vehicle it replaced. If you do not notify the company within 30 days, there will be no automatic coverage. So if you go past the 30 day window you have NO COVERAGE!!!
