As New York prepares for a statewide winter storm system, we are sharing helpful resources you can pass along to your customers to be proactive and support home preparedness, protection, claims mitigation, and staying safe ahead of severe winter weather.
Over the coming days, NYCM will be posting winter storm safety and home protection tips across our social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram. These posts are designed to help policyholders take proactive steps that may reduce damage and prevent avoidable claims.

Share or repost these tips to help your customers prepare
Encourage policyholders to take simple preventative actions, such as:
Property Protection
•Make sure you have fuel for heat
•Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air around pipes
•Remove excessive snow from roofs, vents, and chimneys when possible
Preventing frozen pipes
•Allow faucets to drip slightly during extreme cold
•If home is unoccupied, ensure main water supply is shut off
Snow and ice safety
•Safely clearing snow and ice from walkways and entrances to reduce slip-and-falls
Emergency Preparedness
•Prepare an emergency supply kit
