🎯 Understanding Health Insurance Enrollment Periods 🎯
Open enrollment for health insurance options open up in a few months — but with terms like Open Enrollment, Annual Enrollment, and Special Enrollment, it can get confusing! Let’s break it down early so you can go into this season with the knowledge you need:
🛍️ Marketplace Open Enrollment (ACA Plans):
📅 Nov 1 – Jan 15
This is your window to enroll in, renew, or change your health plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace (Healthcare.gov)
Coverage usually starts Jan 1 (if enrolled by Dec 15) or Feb 1 (if enrolled after Dec 15).
💡 Who should pay attention?
Anyone under 65, self-employed, or without employer-provided insurance.
🚨 Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs):
Life happens! If you have a qualifying life event, like:
✅ Losing coverage
✅ Getting married/divorced
✅ Having a baby or adopting
✅ Moving to a new area
You may be eligible to enroll outside of the normal enrollment windows — but act fast! SEPs are usually limited to 60 days after the event.
🧓 Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP):
📅 Oct 15 – Dec 7
This period is for people with Medicare to make changes to Medicare Advantage plans or switch prescription drug (Part D) plans.
New coverage starts Jan 1.
💡 Who should pay attention?
Those 65+ or eligible for Medicare due to disability.
